The One Less Taken

The One Less Taken was painted about a mile from my home. This is the start of an overgrown trail that runs from Fretz Mill Road down a steep stream bed to Panacussing Creek and Fleecy Dale Road in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Ironically, the trail only runs for a few hundred yards before it gets lost in the underbrush, yet in the painting it appears to go on forever.

I painted this on one of those perfect early summer days. Working on site usually involves some degree of struggling with weather or site conditions, but not this time! Whenever I look at this painting I recall vividly how absolutely gorgeous that day was, with the sound of birdsong, perfect temperatures . . . just a total delight. Possibly, some of the vibe of that experience transferrred itself to the painting, because the comment I most often hear is that it is very relaxing to look at.
