Apple Shadows

I painted this old apple tree many times, in many different weather conditions; it stood in the front yard of the house in which I lived for nearly 30 years in Bucks County, PA. After I sold the house the new owners had the tree cut down--a shame, since it was beautiful and productive as well, providing lots of apples every fall. I'm glad now that I painted it as often as I did.

In Apple Shadows I captured the woven pattern cast on freshly fallen snow by the trees gnarled limbs. It was painted from inside my house, looking out on the front yard very early on a very cold February morning.
