The park-like background is part of my neighbor's property, and the deer are no doubt the same ones who have browsed most of the plantings in my yard down to twigs! And yet in spite of the utter familiarity of the subject matter, there remains something hauntingly ethereal about this small painting. I've tried to capture the same emotional quality in larger pieces but for whatever reasons, Daybreak is elusively unique.
