The Edge of Autumn

The Edge of Autumn was painted at a little overlook off Fretz Mill Road here in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Pannacussing Creek runs at the bottom of the steep, rocky cliff you are looking over the edge of in this painting, flowing into Lumberville and the Delaware River.

This large piece was painted during two gloriously warm, crisp, sunny days at the very end of October. It was a wonderful and memorable experience to celebrate the last truly warm days of the year by sitting in a beautiful place and losing myself in a painting. And I'm delighted by the result, a painting that captures the vibrant colors of the leaves still clinging to the maples and oaks in the foreground, as well as the softness of the ridgeline behind them.
