In the Pink

The spring flowering bulbs are especially challenging to paint on-site because of their extremely brief blooming periods. In a warm spring, tulip flowers can last only a day or two before withering, so getting outside to paint becomes a very pressing concern. The weather all too often is also not particularly conducive to sitting outside for long stretches of time. So I'm always very pleased when I manage to complete an on-site piece as fresh and lovely as In the Pink. I was cold, damp and pretty miserable while working on it, but it lights up a room with the opposites of that: warmth, light and hopefulness.
