The Meadow - July
![]() |
High School Park is a lovely local park near where I live that features a large meadow. In July, when the Milkweed is in bloom, it is alive with Monarch Butterflies. The Milkweed shares space with native grasses and graceful Queen Anne's Lace, whose delicate, lacey whorls of flowers beautifully offset the denser, brownish-pink flower clusters of the Milkweed. Mingled among all are masses of Mugwort, which has tiny white flowers that look like a field of stars behind the larger plants. I loved the way the flowers weave together and spots of sunlight gleam in the background, which are a focal point in this small painting.
