The cool morning fog of late winter is most often an ephemeral phenomenon, rapidly burning off as the sun rises. For just a brief while, however, it can make even the most familiar landscape something mysterious and elusive. That was the case the morning I surprised these two deer in a meadow I know very well. I love the way they blend into their surroundings, and the profound stillness they embody.
