Rhapsody in Red and Gold

This painting is one of those tiny gems that prove that art doesn't have to hit you over the head to be compelling. The leaves are a wild-growing viburnan species, and I'm very pleased with how the shapes of the leaves are echoed by the graceful teardrop of the Black-capped Chickadee. It's interesting that during the rest of the year it's difficult to believe that fall leaves really are that colorful. Then fall rolls around again and suddenly all these fall paintings make perfect sense!
