Spring Morning

On-site painting of spring flowers are one of the greatest challenges of my chosen technique and style. They can be incredibly ephemeral, sometimes only being in full bloom for a day or two, and the weather can be extremely variable and often non-conducive to painting outdoors. I feel I've had a very successful spring painting season if I complete only four or five images. These tulips were one of only two pieces I finished that year due to the chilly temperatures and nearly constant drizzle. I love their subtle hues and sensuous, elegant shapes.
