Still Chilly
![]() |
On-site painting of spring scenes is one of the greatest challenges of my chosen technique and style. The weather can be, frankly, miserable: cold, rainy, breezy. All make painting outdoors difficult if not impossible. To a degree I can paint from my vehicle, as I often do in winter, but once the ground is thawed getting in (and then out!) of many locations can be tricky. Fortunately, this wonderfully gnarly old apple tree is right in my front yard, so I was able to keep ducking inside to warm up while working on Still Chilly. I'm delighted by the result, with the subtle tones of the background and tree and the male robin's rich red-brown breast!
