The Upper Meadow - Allium, Columbine & Poppies

The dry, sunny upper meadow slopes downhill to the ponds and wetland gardens. Originally planted in bluestem, other native grasses, red clover, Rudbeckia, Echinacea, bergamot. milkweed species, columbine, tansies and other prairie perennials, it was heavily over-planted several years ago with tall white and purple alliums and poppies. The result is a garden that transitions beautifully through the seasons, with an orange and purple phase in late spring into early summer.
