January Thaw

I painted this old apple tree many times, in many different weather conditions; it stood in the front yard of the house in which I lived for nearly 30 years in Bucks County, PA. After I sold the house the new owners had the tree cut down--a shame, since it was beautiful and productive as well, providing lots of apples every fall. I'm glad now that I painted it as often as I did.
In January Thaw
I wanted to convey the subtle, muted tones of the yard surrounding the tree
as well as the complex texture of the tree's bark.
