Reflections at 9 AM
![]() |
This is a painting that speaks to me very directly. I grew up in a house that abutted the towpath of the Delaware Canal in Washington Crossing, Bucks County, PA. As a child I found great delight in the still, reflective surface of the canal, the massed greenery alongside it and the elegantly curving delineation of the towpath-----which was bermed so that mules had a pathway from which to tow mule barges, but which in time became a perfect, wide hiking path.
Reflections at 9 AM contains elements which I consider to epitomize this unique landscape during the height of summer: strong, lateral shadows, vividly sunlit patches, a bridge with stunningly simple design, people using the towpath, soft reflections in the quiet waters.
