Wide & Shallow - Tookany Creek
![]() |
Tookany Creek—typical of those that meander throughout the Delaware River watershed—is normally a placid, shallow stream overarched by venerable trees. Watch out in times of heavy rain, however, when it notoriously becomes a rushing torrent that pushes out of its banks. I painted a particularly scenic, wide and shallow bend within High School Park in Elkins Park, PA during a dry spell. I love how the hot yellows of July sunshine contrast beautifully with the cool tones of the refreshing shade and glassy water.
