eBook File Formats FAQ

File formats for electronic books are morphing constantly as new devices arrive on the market and existing devices are updated. Before you purchase any eBook, please check the website of your device's manufacturer to confirm which file formats it can read. Here, however, are a few basic facts:

* PDF Files: If you want to read the book on any computer or print it using your printer, choose the PDF file. (For several technical reasons, the only book I currently have available in PDF format is The Language of Tarot)

* PRC files: If you want to read the book on a Kindle Reader, choose the PRC file. All my books are available in this format. Once you have downloaded your book using the link in your purchase confirmation, simply drag and drop it onto your Kindle's computer interface. I also have created a deatiled list of how to manually add eBooks to your Kindle.

* You may also read any Kindle PRC file on a computer instead of a Kindle by downloading Amazon's free Kindle for PC emulator or free Kindle for Mac emulator.

* To read Kindle PRC files on many other devices, you can download FREE applications from Amazon.com:

* So what about the Barnes & Noble Nook? Is there a way to read Kindle files on a Nook? Yes, there are several methods to convert files between the two non-interchangable formats, and a great place to start is with this basic guide to eBook files and conversion. The free tool you will need to download is called Calibre.
